Villa with a view - Lugano

The relationship with nature and the landscape, the permeability between interior and exterior spaces, the juxtaposition and overlapping of volumes, the use of precise materials: these are the main themes of this single-family villa in Lugano.

The challenge

An elongated rectangle organized on three levels, the house embraces the surrounding landscape and its rich vegetation, by exploiting the orography of the site: a landscape to be enjoyed visually, as it and the house compenetrate one another.

The inspiration

Our research aimed to lighten the mass of the building, by offsetting some its parts, those which correspond to the main areas of domestic life: the garage, the spa and fitness area in the basement, the sleeping area on the first floor and the living area, with attached pool and patio, on the second: the latter can, if necessary, be closed on all sides, becoming an extension of the living room.

The concept

A succession of isotropic, transparent and flexible environments, where the protagonist is always the light streaming through a large, continuous glass wall which allows a direct relationship with the exterior: a diffused, calibrated (and modulable) light source that projects the dimension of inhabiting beyond the solid confines of the domestic walls.

Interior design

Special care was put into the sober and elegant furnishings, integrated in perfect accord with the architecture: objects designed with care and sophistication, creating contrasts and settings that combine into an indivisible whole.

The skilled use of geometry and alignments, the dialectic between different materials (such as the light grey plaster used in the upper part, in chromatic contrast with the quartzite of the lower part) define, by coherently extending it, the figurative world of the house.
