L'atelier m is situated on the 3rd floor of a simple urban building in the heart of Bastia, Corsica. The door opens to reveal a Chevron flooring pattern, like a series of arrows concealed by the warm, dark colour that matches the Green Smoke (green/blue/smoky grey) on the walls.
The project drew inspiration from the philosophy of Epicurus. Wood is a material, a colour, a light and a visual reality that grabs the attention, a fragrance to be smelled and an enticing surface to be touched. It is reassuring because it is a living material. The architecture studio was redesigned with this life concept in mind, choosing a living material like wood that evolves constantly. The Chevron flooring was chosen to enhance the patterns of light and shadow created by the sun on each single element: as the sun moves it transforms objects and makes them a little lighter or darker, just like our emotions.
It was love at first sight for the Brushed Golden Oak which has been used to create a space that skilfully combines the Chevron pattern with the black and white patterned wallpaper and the metallic Scandinavian-style furniture.
